b'THE ELLESMERIAN Early Season Domestic SuccessOur first competition of the season was the Short Course 176 Regional Championships, which took place at Harvey Hadden Sports Centre in Nottingham on the 5th and 6th November. We saw 28 student-athletes from our Youth and Senior Performance squads race. The ECSAs final totals were:-15 Gold Medals-9 Silver Medals-9 Bronze Medals-44 Top 8 FinishesOur target competition of the first training cycle was Swim England Short Course Winter Championships 2022. These took place at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre over 3 days from 2nd-5th December. The ECSA final totals for the competition were as follows: British Championships April 2023-9 Junior Finals A cohort of 8 ECSA members made their way to the steel city of -5 Senior Finals Sheffield for the British Championships, the highest level of domestic -2 Junior Medals (1 Bronze, 1 Silver) competition in Great Britain. The competition ran for 6 days from 4th-9th April 2023. All of the ECSA members who raced stepped up to the In March 2023 the ECSA had 6 student-athletes selected to representplate and performed on this major domestic stage.the West Midlands for the English School Swimming Association National Championships in Coventry. Archie Dandy, Anna Farr, Jake Hutchinson,There were 10 finals swims from ECSA athletes at the competition. James Raw, James Gannicott, and Anna Farrow were selected, as wellEmily Farr held her stroke rate well to finish 32.91 (4th Priority Paris as Coach Danny Proffitt who was selected as West Midlands Assistantfinal) in the 50m Breaststroke, while James Raw went out like a rocket Coach.and held on during his 400m Freestyle to finish 4.03.98 PB (6th Junior final). Anna Farrow broke the 5-minute barrier for the first time in the 400m Individual Medley to finish 4.59.30 PB (5th Priority Paris final). Jake Hutchinson held his head position well to finish 58.79 in the 100m Backstroke (8th Junior final). Oscar Dodds made huge technical improvements from heat to final in the 400m Individual Medley, dropping 6 seconds to finish 4.30.57 PB (1st Junior final). Olivia Hunter held her rhythm to finish 2.20.29 in the 200m Butterfly (6th Priority Paris final). Jake Hutchinson was back up on the finals blocks, this time in the 100m Butterfly. He powered down the 1st 50 and improved his back half from the heat to finish 55.64 PB (8th Open B final). Anna Farrow backed up her 400m Individual Medley final with another final but this time in the 200m Individual Medley, where she hit the wall 2.20.17 PB (4th Open B final). Jack Hutchinson completed a hat trick of finals as he displayed his fast twitch fibres in the 50m Butterfly; he hit the wall in 25.06 (7th Priority Paris final). Our last final of the competition was Oscar Dodds, who stepped it up when it mattered once again to swim a new PB of 2.04.18 in the 200m Backstroke (Priority Paris Final).Long Course Regionals and National QualificationOver three weekends of racing, 29 members of the ECSA raced at either Corby International Pool or Moorways Sports Village for the 2023 Long Course Regional Championships. It was superb to see members from all squads of the ECSA race at these championships, where student-athletes displayed their ability to improve from heats to finals.
