Youth Choirs Musical Journey from Ellesmere to Disneyland

Musicians from Ellesmere entertained holidaymakers at Disneyland Paris as part of the live performances in France. The college's chapel choir performed at the attraction for the first time, after the French connection was made with a number of successful auditions. Around 40 musicians took part in the live performances which were hosted at the Walt Disney Studios Park and Notre Dame Cathedral, and school leaders said they couldn't wait to get started. Director of Music Tony Coupe said "This was an unforgettable experience for all involved and contributes to our ongoing programme of developing a fine choral tradition at the College".

The park is home of CinéMagique, a well-known theatre show which mixes the live performance of an actor with synchronized movie scenes on a big screen. Sixth Form student Poppy Clark said "I was really looking forward to the trip; it was quite exciting performing on a main stage in the studio park and in front of visitors from all over Europe and the world". This invitation capped off what was a very successful few weeks for performers at the College. Students scooped a number of awards at the Oswestry Youth Music Festival, namely, Harry Fradley, who won the Under 18 and Under 21 singing categories as well as the Under 21 Woodwind Solo. One of the youngest competitors in the competition, Huw Lloyd, 10, also took the Under 12 Singing and Under 12 Musical Theatre titles against 28 other competitors.
