Ellesmere College past and present 1st XI cricket captains attended a winter training camp at the ICC Global Cricket Academy, in Dubai. The main focus for the players was preparing for their involvement in their School and County programme this summer.
Situated in Dubai Sports City, its location places it in the centre of the cricket-playing world. It offers the opportunity to players, coaches, umpires, curators and administrators from across the ICC's 104 Member Countries to benefit from programs and courses.
Current sixth form student Harry Stow attended the academy as part of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under 19 Squad and Sam Owen took the opportunity to obtain some winter practice and coach junior teams at the cricket centre.
Harry said "This was a great opportunity for me to obtain some winter cricket game time and to supplement my training programme at the School," Harry said. "The facilities in Dubai are incredible and this training will help me in preparation for the Summer Cricket Fixtures".
Harry, although not available for selection was part of the winning UAE squad who were victorious against England under 19s by three wickets with three balls remaining in a recent tournament.
Director of Cricket, Gareth Owen, said "It's been a fantastic opportunity for both Harry and Sam to attend the ICC in Dubai. They have benefited from being able to train and work at their world class facilities. The cricket academy at Ellesmere supports each player's aspirations to play cricket at a higher level and provide the cricket environment for students to thrive".
