Year 8 pupil, Shannon Davies, has qualified for the British Modern Triathlon Championships after an impressive debut at the Pentathlon GB Midlands competition. Shannon, who has only recently taken up the Modern Pentathlon, competed against athletes from across the region in a triathlon event, the first stage for a junior taking up Modern Pentathlon, where she participated in shooting, swimming and running.
As one of the youngest in her age category, she managed to beat off stiff competition to finish in the top 5 and secure her place in the national finals. “I had a fantastic day,” she said afterwards. “I was relaxed coming here and I wanted to progress into the British Modern Triathlon Championships, which I managed to do”. Shooting Academy Coach, Tom Rylands, said “I am absolutely delighted with Shannon’s performance where she managed to achieve a number of personal bests. I know from her training that she has huge potential. We are very much looking forward to the National Finals and it’s great to see a number of pupils taking up the sport in the school. With the assistance of Pentathlon GB, the national governing body for the Olympic sport of modern pentathlon we will be running a Biathlon event at the College, which gives young athletes an opportunity to have a go at a multi-sport competition.”
