On Friday 19th October Sir Jackie Stewart visited Ellesmere to officially open the Learning Support Department. He was welcomed to the School by Bryan Tang, one of the School Prefects, before being introduced to the Headmaster and his wife who then accompanied Sir Jackie to the Learning Support Department. After the ribbon cutting ceremony Sir Jackie was introduced to the Head of Learning Support, Mrs Ros McCarthy, who gave Sir Jackie a tour around the Department assisted by two Year 6 pupils who receive Learning Support lessons. Sir Jackie, who himself is dyslexic, was keen to hear all about the department and the provision they provide for pupils at the school, and chatted to the assembled group of pupils and staff about the challenges he had faced when he was at school, and also as a young adult, as he was not diagnosed with dyslexia until the age of 41 when it became apparent that one of his sons was also dyslexic.
All Year 6 pupils then had the opportunity to ask Sir Jackie questions about his life, and in particular, his driving experiences. He then signed copies of his new autobiography before leaving
