It has recently been confirmed by the Holocaust Educational Trust that two Year 12 Students have been selected to participate in the 2010 Holocaust Educational Trust Lessons from Auschwitz project.

James McCarthy and Luke Ottoway, both studying History at A-level, will be participating in the national project during the Easter holidays, which will include a seminar that will explore pre-war Jewish life in Germany and prepare the two students for their visit to Poland. The tour of Auschwitz will also take place in April and will conclude with a commemorative ceremony. Back in Britain there will be a follow-up seminar when students from all over the country will consider contemporary lessons of the Holocaust and prepare themselves to share their experiences to fellow pupils back at School next term.

It was Philip Wood, History Teacher and Head of Sixth Form who made the students aware of the project. He commented, As keen young historians, James and Luke were the first to express an interest in the project. This is the first time that Ellesmere College has nominated students to participate in the project and I am delighted that their places have been confirmed.
