This years Reading Half Marathon, the largest half marathon in the Country, included two Sixth Form students who recently travelled south and returned to School delighted that they had finished the race successfully, both completing the course in under two hours.
As part of their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards, Year 12 students, James McCarthy and Julian Sole, who had no previous experience of long distance running, have spent much time together since Christmas training and encouraging each other to prepare for the Reading Half Marathon. As part of a group of Sixth Form students who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards, James and Julian took the opportunity to participate in the race in order to raise funds for the forthcoming Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Expedition, canoeing in Canada, in July.
James and Julian were successful in raising over 200 towards their Canadian adventure. Upon their return to School, Julian commented, It was a good experience pushing ourselves to embrace a new challenge. James added, We can now look forward to the Canadian trip in the knowledge that we have contributed to the groups funds.
