During half-term two pupils have represented Team GB in the RS Feva Sailing Nationals.
Brothers, George, Year 11 and Edward, Year 9, have been avid sailors since they could walk and were selected in October 2009 to join the National Squad, in competition with 70 other crews. They pair sail every weekend , irrespective of the weather, mostly training at Whitemere, Ellesmere but travelling the entire country to take part in Team GB races.
Besides the sailing element, the boys have to undergo rigorous land training exercises to increase their overall fitness levels. Due to their excellent seamanship, they have been selected for extra training by one of the top coaches in the UK.
Debbie Joynson-Brooke, Director of Activities, commented, George and Edward have recently been very busy in their spare time preparing for the Nationals and then the World Cup in July which, this year, will be staged in Carnac in France. There they will race against other RS Feva crews from around the world, with 130 boats already registered, we wish them all the very best for this event too.
Nick Pettingale, Ellesmere Colleges Director of Development added, The boys have recently been sponsored by the Old Ellesmerian Club and as a result will be sailing with the School crest on their boat.
