Last weekend two Ellesmere College pupils travelled down to Stourport Hockey Club to represent Shropshire in the Under 17 hockey team, who were playing friendly matches against Staffordshire and Worcestershire.
Lower Sixth student Vivian Grudde, who joined Ellesmere in the Sixth Form to study the International Baccalaureate and Emily Lewis in Year 11, who is taking her GCSEs this summer, represented the County in the team that won both matches. Anwen Pugh, Hockey Instructor at Ellesmere College and County Hockey Coach commented, "Both girls were fundamental players within the team, particularly in maintaining possession, distributing the play and pressurising the opposition. Vivian Grudde was the key facilitator in ensuring Shropshire's first victory, as she forcefully drove the ball down the wing, eliminated several players and enticed the keeper out of the goal before feeding the ball through to the scorer. Then Vivian extended the team's lead when an attacking player was brought down by the keeper, the umpires awarded a penalty flick, and she composedly scored."
