For the 3rd year, following their participation in the regional tennis finals of the Aegon National Schools Tennis Competition, the U13 and U15 Tennis teams will be heading, with just seven other schools from around the country, for the Finals next month at the Bolton Tennis Arena.
The two teams travelled to Nottingham with Nikki Hoy, Tennis Academy Coach, and returned victorious. The U13 team were Year 8 pupils, Mia Foster,Jessica Oldham, Chelsea Watson and Year 9 pupil Catriona Jones. The Year 10 team were Hannah Clarke, Harriet Jones, Olivia Jones and Emily Sutcliffe.
Both teams first matches were comfortable 6-0 wins, with the Year 8 team beating King Henry VIII School, Coventry and the Year 10 team beating Boston Grammar. The finals were tougher matches, but, the Year 10 girls worked well together and achieved an amazing 4-0 win against Repton School. The Year 8 team had a tough fixture against the Number 1 seeds, Nottingham High School, and lost the first 3 matches only to come back and win on a very exciting match tie break.
Nikki Hoy commented, We certainly had a great result from a brilliant bunch of girls who pulled together and supported each other through to victory. Fantastic! We are one of only four schools in the country who has qualified for the finals for the 3rd year.
Both teams will now be practising hard for the National Schools Finals over the weekend of 4th and 5th December at the Bolton Tennis Arena where they will be battling it out to win this national competition.
