Ellesmere College celebrated a double success in the AEGON Team Tennis Schools Senior Championships.
The Boys and Mixed A teams have qualified for the national finals to be held at the Bolton Arena, which is one of the Lawn Tennis Associations 19 High Performance Centres, from March 23rd. Both teams continued on their journey defeating old rivals such as Wilmslow High, Rydal Penrhos and Caldey Grange schools.
The LTA Team Tennis Schools tournament is a programme of three nationally organised competitions, which provide pupils with the opportunity to play regular competitive tennis. The competition attracts more than 13,700 players from over 3,000 school tennis teams.
In the regional finals both teams played some very exciting tennis against Canon Slade School on the indoor courts at Wrexham, with the boy's team winning all their singles matches to qualify for the National Finals. The Mixed team played a very strong Canon Slade team and at two matches a piece were faced with a tie-break shoot out which Ellesmere won 10-8.
Stephen Welti, coach at Ellesmere College said "I couldn't be more proud of how the students have performed. The great strength of the competition is that it's a team event and players have worked hard together to achieve success."
