The Ellesmere College Tennis Academy facility was once again buzzing with the excited chatter and the thwack of racquets as we welcomed back local primary schools after nearly two years for the North Shropshire School Games Years 5 & 6 Tennis Festival run by Shropshire Tennis Coach, Henry Broadhurst.
Five local schools - under the School Games initiative - including Cockshutt C of E Primary School, Criftins C of E Primary School, Newton C of E Primary School, Welshampton C of E Primary School, and Moreton
Hall, bought over 113 children to the Indoor Tennis Centre.
Mollie Croxon, North Shropshire School Games Organiser, said: "This was a fun afternoon for the
children to experience a tennis festival to help build their skills and
confidence while playing mini games. It will be one of the first events these
students would have attended for a few years so it was wonderful to see so many
enjoying the events and fantastic facilities."
The next one to be hosted at
Ellesmere College in the Sports Hall is Year 3 and 4 students on the 15th June.
About the Tennis Academy at Ellesmere College
Tennis is an integral and important part of the Physical Education and Recreation curriculum at Ellesmere College and access to the facilities and coaching is available to all pupils, whatever their current level in the game - from fun to elite!
The team of LTA qualified coaches deliver a fully structured programme each week of the term and many pupils take advantage of the additional coaching, which is available to individuals, pairs and groups.
Our aim is to inspire and encourage young tennis players to be the best they can be, whilst nurturing their individual talent in a safe and supportive environment. For selected High Performance players, the Academy has a revitalised programme providing individual tuition and group sessions, personal fitness, nutrition and competitive match play.
