Swimming Star Llawen Answers Wales Call

Teenage Swimmer, Llawen Rossel-Smith, has been selected to attend the 2014 Wales Commonwealth Games Female Breaststroke Development Clinic, held at the National Swimming Pool in Swansea.

Llawen has earned the call to join the two day training camp after a successful run of results in the pool and recommendation from Swim Wales Performance Director Martin Woodruff, who has been monitoring Llawen's progress.

She will take part in the development clinic in February where she will learn about the Commonwealth Games 2014 selection process and be involved with a series of fitness drills, as well as specialist coaching.

"I'm really pleased. I had always hoped that I'd get chosen but it was great when it was finally confirmed. Only 9 swimmers have been selected to take part in the clinic, so to be a part of this is a fantastic opportunity and one that I am really looking forward to!" she added.

Llawen's ultimate goal is to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2018, before which she aims to progress to national level and achieve yet more success at the British Gas National Group and Youth Championships.

Alan Bircher, Head Coach at Ellesmere College, said; "The Titans Swimming Academy was set up so that we can have swimmers like Llawen involved. Ultimately we are here to help each individual achieve his or her dream. Llawen has great potential and as long as we progress her in the right way she will not only reach her goals, but I believe surpass them."
