Summer Holidays Fun

This summer, the School offered 9 different courses spread across 5 weeks of the school holidays. Just fewer than 200 children took part in the courses in the Schools sports facilities organized by Sports Centre Manager, Chris Rogers.

The first courses that took place were Adventure+ in July, with participants taking part in canoeing on the Mere, rock climbing in Llangollen and Llanymynech. During the week the participants aged from 11 to 15 years old took part in activities at the School which included golf, swimming, sports and much more. In the week the participants designed their own t-shirts and all wore them to the final day of the course to visit Rednal go-carting for a mornings racing around the track.

For the third summer, the School's Multi-Activities course for children aged 8 to 14 years old, incorporating a larger range of activities which children thoroughly enjoy, Chris Rogers commented the course is designed to offer a varied programme for the children but also give them some ownership to choose the activities they enjoy.

A second week of Adventure+ took place in August with all participants thoroughly enjoying their week of activities. Kayaking, Canoeing, Climbing and Orienteering took place lead by outdoor pursuits expert Martin Digby. The week culminated with a morning of ropes activities at Albrighton Halls Adventure Ropes course.

As always the Tennis and Rugby camps were extremely popular, both courses giving children the opportunity to improve their game in a short space of time. The tennis camp took place over 2 weeks with players improving their skills as well as competing in teams throughout the week. The rugby camp was lead by a group of Old Ellesmerians preparing players for the upcoming season with club, county or school.

For the second year the School offered a Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership with 7 youngsters aged 14 and 15 years passing the award to develop their leadership skills through sport, looking at planning, safety and leading fun sessions with children. The Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leaders was also run for 5 young adults from 16 years old. The Sports Leaders arranged and delivered a number of activities with the Multi-Activities groups.

Chris Rogers commented, it was a great summer at Ellesmere, we had some brilliant kids in for the summer. All the staff thoroughly enjoyed working with the children. We are now in the process of planning upcoming courses.
