The 4th annual Parents Society Ladies Lunch was recently enjoyed by 250 guests.
Held in a large marquee, this was the final event of a busy 2010-11 Parents Society programme and was supported by a number of local businesswomen who had stalls selling an array of interesting items including jewelry, clothing, flowers and gifts.
The event began with a drinks reception on the Terraces. Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, welcomed guests and Zoe Evans, Head Girl, said Grace in Latin, before everyone enjoyed a delicious 3-course meal.
During the meal and under the direction of Roger Paul, Director of Music, numerous musical pupils provided background music and a group of Prefects were in attendance throughout to support the event.
The speaker was one of Shropshires Deputy High Sheriffs, Shirley Tart, OBE, who gave a very interesting talk about her experiences as a journalist attending every royal wedding during the last few decades.
Sena Parry, ECPS Chair Person commented, We were again this year very lucky with the weather and the event was enjoyed by all who attended. Like all such events, much volunteer support was given by numerous parents to ensure that the marquee was beautifully dressed and the event flowed. I thank them for their support.
The chosen charity to benefit from the proceeds from the event was Women for Women, the Genesis Research Trust, which promotes science for the health of women and babies. One of the raffle prizes was a signed book by Professor Winston, the Charitys President.
The next big event to be organised by the Parents Society will be the annual Ball on December 10th and during the Ladies Lunch, one lucky guest found a pair of ECPS Ball tickets under her chair.
Sena Parry added, The forthcoming academic year will see another busy year for the Ellesmere College Parents Society. After the AGM at the beginning of September the new committee will be organising a number of events including a Robert Burns night in January.
