Students from across Lower School came together on Monday 19th
June to present their own musical showcase. From the LS Band's 'Summer Nights'
from Grease conducted by our very own T-Bird, Mr Fisher, to the rock bands
performing 'Ruby' and 'Bring Me to Life', the evening was one long celebration
fronted by a huge level of confidence from the students.
KS2 Musical Theatre group gave an energetic, choreographed
performance of 'Reveloting Children' from Matilda and we got a preview of 'It's
a Hard Knock Life' from Annie performed by KS3 students. Vocals blended with
instrumental skills ranging from Aaron Heward's jazz piano stylings to Alex
Hu's intense, musical performance of Bach's Prelude on the Violin.
The Year 8 students gave a strong lead, as they performed
for the last time as members of Lower School and we were treated to a
performance of Spice Girls 'Wannabe' towards the end of the evening. Mr Coupe
took the opportunity to thank key staff involved but paid tribute to Kiri
Kilgannon and Bella New who have done such a fabulous job as Music Captains
this year.
The LS Choir brought proceedings to a close with two Abba
songs. The last of these featured solos by Mr Fisher and Mr Coupe, and Mrs Paul
sat in pride of place on a throne, as she comes to the end of her time teaching
in the department and the college. As the children sang 'Thank You For the
Music', there were tears and smiles in equal measure and I hope that Mrs Paul
realises that much of the development that has led to concerts like this is
down to her determination, sunny disposition and great attention to detail. She
will be missed but we wish her well as she joins her husband Roger for her next
great adventure.
Well done to everyone involved and we look forward to lots
of wonderful music-making next year!
