A Sixth Form Prefect has recently learnt that he is the regional winner of a national writing competition organised by the Parliamentary Press Gallery to write an essay recommending three policies that could be adopted by any of the parties for the 2010 General Election.
Joshua Boswell, a Year 13 student and Prefect, was encouraged to enter the competition by Louise Paton, Head of History and the Gifted & Talented Programme Coordinator at Ellesmere College. He wrote a 2,000 word essay giving ideas for policies for reforms of the Financial Sector and minimum wage as well as the legalisation of cannabis. His submission was read by all three party leaders and has won him a two day stay in London early next month which will include visiting Parliament in session.
Louise Paton commented, This the first time that an Ellesmere student has entered the competition and we are obviously delighted that Joshuas essay was judged to be the best from the region. We look forward to hearing about his visit to the Houses of Parliament.
Joshua is currently studying for A levels in History, Economics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. When he leaves the School in the summer, he will be going onto university to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Joshua added, Winning the competition was a huge surprise and delight for me. I am looking forward to the experience of visiting the Houses of Parliament and seeing the MPs in action.
