Sixth Form Students Explore The Works of Francisco de Goya
A combined group of nine A-Level Art and Spanish students recently travelled to the National Gallery in London, to visit an exhibition of more than 50 works by renowned artist and social chronicler Francisco de Goya.
The trip to the exhibition, which traced Goya's career from early beginnings at the Spanish court of Charles III to his appointment as 'first court painter' and his final years in France, provided a unique chance to appreciate Goya's technical and psychological development.
Lower Sixth student Edward Bellis, currently studying for his AS examinations in French and Spanish, said: "I really enjoyed this trip as it extended my knowledge of a significant period in Spanish and French history."
"At A2 level in French and in Spanish, I will have to research two cultural topics each, and having been to this exhibition I may well consider exploring the work of a French or a Spanish artist."
The trip concluded with some free time in Covent Garden and other cross-curricular ventures are planned for future terms and year groups.
