Shropshire student Zac Xiourouppa has received his first full international cap for the England Under-16 rugby union side. The Ellesmere College pupil, from Bridgnorth, met up with the squad for a week over the Easter Holidays in order to play against Wales and Scotland.
During the home countries competition England took all the honours beating Scotland 34-22 and Wales 24-22. Back row Xiourouppa, 16, said: "I was thrilled to be able to wear the English Rose and to represent my country."
Zac has been a prominent player at the school since joining at the age of 13, where he has represented County, Midlands and Worcester Warriors squads. His latest call-up continues the school's tradition for producing international youth players.
Xiourouppa is not the only player who has been impressing the talent scouts. Efan Jones, also 16, represented Wales in a non-cap match against England, which meant the Ellesmere College team-mates played against each other. "It's really pleasing to see a number of boys get this kind of opportunity to represent their country," said Alex Murphy, head of rugby at the school.
