Shropshire Festival of Verse and Prose

College students attended the Shropshire Festival of Verse and Prose at Moreton Hall. Against some fierce competition, Tapas Varshneya came a respectable 3rd place in the Famous Speech category for her age group - beating rivals to this position by outshining them in her reading of Emma Watson's UN speech for the HeforShe Campaign.

Later that evening, Tapas battled her way to Joint 2nd place alongside fellow College student, Lorenzo Bavelloni, in the Public Speaking class for their age group. Both Lorenzo and Tapas wrote and delivered their own speeches on topical environmental and gender issues, respectively.

Catrin Stephens added to the collection of awards following her recital of two poems based upon the theme of womanhood; she deserved her very respectable prize for 2nd place in the Poetry Reading class.

Ross Murdoch (Yr11) and Edina Jones (Yr10) both did themselves, and the College, very proud in their Public Speaking and Famous Speech categories for their age groups. Sadly, neither of them placed in their classes but they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are keen to return again next year.

Overall, the Shropshire Festival was a wonderful evening that inspired our students and encouraged them to ask if we could host our own festival in the years to come! A success all round!
