Ellesmere's Rifle Team won top honors in the last open meeting of the season at Appleton Rifle Club in Cheshire. The successful team, who picked up 10 winning trophies, was represented by students from year's 9 to 12. They competed against over 50 other competitors of all ages from across the country.
College team members who featured heavily in the top honors were; Richard Lay taking 1st place at 100 yards in class B, Katy Leeming winning at 50 yards in class C and Lottie Hulme took 1st place at 100 yards and 2nd place at 50 yards. Luke Caldecott achieved a 2nd place at 100 yards in class C and class D and Caro Hulme took 2nd place at 100 yards.
Shooting Academy Coach, Tom Rylands, was delighted with the results; "To pick up all 10 trophies at an open event against all ages, in three different classes, proves how target shooting at Ellesmere is going from strength to strength. We have started clay shooting this term and already look to have some potential champions in the making. We have over 70 children participating in one target discipline or another each week and the College's vision of providing opportunity in every Olympic Target Sport is beginning to look very realistic - we have the raw talent, now we have to work to create the facility."
