Three Ellesmere College pupils represented the Great Britain School's Shooting Team and recorded personal bests at the recent ISAS 2013 in Dortmund, Germany. Katy Leeming, Richard Lay and James Slater lined up alongside some of the best shooters from all over the world, including five times world champion Rajmond Debevec and ten-time European Champion Sonja Pfeilschifter.
The Great Britain Schools Team consisted of eight shooters who were selected from the top scorers in the British Schools Small-Bore Rifle Team versus New Zealand postal match that had taken place earlier in the year. Katy Leeming said "The experience of shooting for the Great Britain Schools Team in Dortmund was amazing and not only that I got to compete alongside Olympic and World Champions, which really inspired me".
The team who competed in the Men's and Women's Junior 50m Rifle Prone. They achived some exceptional individual performances, with Richard Lay and Katy Leeming finishing in the top 30.
Shooting Academy Coach, Tom Rylands, said "The standard, as usual, was very high indeed, being an international competition, and all the team members have gained invaluable experience from competing against the best juniors from around the world. It's great to see Ellesmere pupils competing against the world's elite and to finish where they did was a great achievement".
