Schools Choral Festival Day at Ellesmere College

Ellesmere College hosted a Schools Choral Festival Day as part of the College's outreach work in Music on Wednesday 7th November.

Choirs from two other independent schools - The Firs Chester and Adcote School - came together with our own Lower School Choir, to take the opportunity to learn four new songs together and listen to each other performing separately. Members of the College Sixth Form, Chamber and Choral Choirs plus Music Scholars also assisted in the days rehearsals - led and directed by Director of Music at the College - Tony Coupe.

The students, ranging from Yrs 3 to 11, responded brilliantly to the challenge of learning new material in readiness for Christmas, and the day culminated in a short concert for parents in the Chapel where each school choir took the opportunity to sing their chosen song, including a fabulous acapella performance from the Adcote School Chamber Choir, and then all three choirs came together for their joint performance - 'When The Saints Go Marching In.'

Tony commented, "It is so important for children to have the opportunity to come together and celebrate their love of singing. It develops a child in every sense and helps to build great team skills. It was a real privilege to work with such responsive choirs who are a real credit to their schools. Music will always be celebrated at Ellesmere College where creativity really does count."

Thank you to all who came and helped with the Festival Day and to those parents who came to watch the concert at the end!
