School Hosts Kwik Cricket Festival

Ellesmere College was given the opportunity to host the Kwik sponsored 2010 North Shropshire Primary Schools Cricket Festival which was held earlier this week at Ellesmere College and played in glorious weather.

Six local schools took part with eight teams playing in two groups. The schools were Criftins, Cockshutt, Ifton Heath and Welshampton as well as Ellesmere and Myddle Primary Schools which both entered 2 teams each.

The schools were divided into 2 groups with the winners of group A, Ellesmere Primary A team, playing the runners up of group B which was Ellesmere B team. This turned out to be the most exciting game of the festival with Ellesmere A, winning off the last ball.

The other group was contested between Ifton Heath and Criftins and the winners from this game was Criftins. They went on to be Runners up to Ellesmere A team in the final. As winners, the Ellesmere Primary School A team will now go forward to represent the North Shropshire area in June.

Rod Jones, Director of the Ellesmere College Cricket Academy commented, Everyone enjoyed the day, with teachers getting involved either scoring or umpiring. For some of the children involved, this is their first attempt at playing cricket, hopefully they will now go on to develop their cricket skills and go on to play for local clubs.
