As two former pupils are shooting for their country in the Commonwealth Games, two current pupils have just spent the weekend training with the Great Britain Junior Squad whilst the Shooting Academy Coach has been preparing to visit Brisbane, Australia on a fact finding tour in advance of the 2011 World Championships.
Old Ellesmerians Jennifer Corish, Sian Corish and John Croydon are all representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games, in various disciplines. Year 11 pupil, Richard Belcher and Sixth Form student, Ryan Williams, have been training with the GB Junior Development team.
Richard has been a member of the Junior Squad for 12 months, and has now been joined by fellow pupil, Ryan Williams. They are part of a 40 strong national squad who were invited to spend the weekend at the National Smallbore Rifle Associations regional shooting centre in Wolverhampton, further developing their skills under the watchful eye of eight national coaches.
Tom Rylands, Shooting Academy Coach, commented, Having represented British Schools in a match against Denmark during the summer holidays, Richard and Ryans inclusion in the GB Junior Squad is a further endorsement of the Schools commitment to developing talent through the Ellesmere College Shooting Academy.
