On Sunday 13th May between 1pm and 4pm, the School will be hosting it’s Summer Open Day. Music and activity will abound as staff and pupils welcome visitors to their annual summer event. Record numbers of families have already expressed their interest on the School’s website to attend the event and it is expected that many Old Ellesmerians will be returning for the day too.

The School will be particularly busy on the 13th  as they play hosts to the Shropshire Cricket Board annual Under 13 Club Cricket Festival.  

The School’s environment may be rural but its outlook is global. The School welcomes students from over 20 nations, with a wide range of academic ability and children from all social backgrounds. Academic success is measured by each individual student achieving the very best they can, in a school that is famously forward looking and innovative.

Headmaster, Brendan Wignall, now in his 16th year, has created a school that is people centred and not driven by statistics. He explained, ‘Ellesmere College is a school that focuses on the individual and everyone is valued equally. The School takes pride in the achievements of each and every student and relishes the rich range of personalities and passions. Ellesmere takes sport, the arts and the many varied extra-curricular activities it offers very seriously - sport, the arts and activities are for all pupils, participating for the sheer joy that being part of something bigger can bring - no matter what level they perform or participate at.

Brendan Wignall commented, ‘Education  needs to begin with pupils aiming to achieve their best possible examination results, but cannot stop there: in the current economic circumstances it has never been more important to prepare young people for the employment challenges ahead in their adult life: that all begins at Ellesmere.
