Pupils Win Regional Triathlon Competition

Travelling recently across the Country to Salt Ayre in Lancaster, 2 Year 9 pupils participated in the Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain North West Biathlon and Triathlon Championships and returned as winners of their competitions.

The three elements of the Triathlon competition are Pistol Shooting at 10 metres, Running 1500 metres on Track and Swimming 200 metres, all which 13 year olds, Jamie Thomas and Naomi Craig are able to practise and develop their performance at Ellesmere College.

In both competitions there were 40 competitors, with Jamie winning the 13/14 year old and Naomi winning the Under 16 girls Triathlon competitions. Their success has qualified for them to compete in the National Biathlon Championships in May. Another exciting development for the pair is that they have both been invited to join the Pentathlon GB English Talent Pool Squad.

As Ian Williams, Director of Sport explained, With their targets set on being future Olympians, Jamie and Naomi are both very dedicated young sports people. Their hours of training across the three disciplines is beginning to reap them reward and we wish them well as they progress through to the national competition later this year.  Families are welcome to join staff and pupils at the forthcoming Lower School Open Morning for entry into Years 3 to 8, on Saturday 26th March, between 10am and 12noon.
