A group of talented Music Scholars recently travelled to the Birmingham Conservatoire to participate in a wide range of classes.
Accompanied by 2 members of the Music Department, Director of Music, Roger Paul and Rebecca Paul, Lower School Music Teacher, a group of 13 music scholars attended the Open Day.
Lower Sixth Form student, Nia Squirrell, in Year 12 explained, When we arrived at the Conservatoire we were all amazed by the enthusiasm of its students. We attended a wide range of classes including one in the Strings Department where we were entertained firstly by a First Year Quartet and then some Third Year Students so that we could see what sort of improvement had been made.
During the day, the group listened in to Orchestral Rehearsals, Jazz Jam Sessions and a Vocal Interpretation Class. They also participated in a Piano Master Class, led by Peter Donohoe, and finally workshops in Composition and Music technology. In these classes the Ellesmere College music scholars went their separate ways to ensure that they saw what was important to them. As a result they all had much to discuss and share with each other during the return journey home. During the day they also had the opportunity to meet many of the current Conservatoire students who spoke of their studies and answered questions about student life.
Roger Paul commented, The international Birmingham Conservatoire is also a major concert venue. The Open Day presented the opportunity for the Schools talented musicians to learn about the opportunities to study every kind of instrument as well as Composition and Music Technology.
