Pupils Success in National Shooting Championships

A number of the Schools Shooting Club members recently participated in the  National Shooting Championships held at Bisley, Surrey and some excellent individual results were achieved.

Sixth Form students, Richard Belcher and Ryan Williams, alongside James Slater in Year 11 competed in the Junior International matches with several personal bests being recorded. Ryan Williams also achieved a Bronze medal in the 3 position team event.

The group of 16 pupils was the largest school contingent present, with a remarkable 6 pupils being selected to represent British Schools in a match against Denmark. Another Year 11 pupil, Richard Belcher, as well as Year 11 pupil, James Slater, achieved Silver medals. The other team members for this match were Richard Lay and Ryan Williams, alongside Year 8 pupil, Katy Leeming and Year 11 pupil, Samantha Williams.

Tom Rylands, Academy Shooting Coach commented, The whole team acquitted themselves very well and the accompanying staff were very proud to receive many very complimentary remarks from other competitors about their enthusiasm and conduct on the ranges. They were all a real credit to Ellesmere College.

Following his performance at this competition, Ryan Williams will be returning to Bisley in the near future as he has been selected to represent Wales in the Commonwealth Shoot Federation Mens Shoot since there is not a junior class for the 60 shot air rifle or the 3 position matches. Tom Rylands explained, The 3 positions competition includes 40 shots prone, followed by 40 shot standing and ending with 40 shots kneeling.  We all wish Ryan every success in this competition.
