As part of this week of expeditions for all pupils, Year 6 pupils travelled to Cheshire to visit the Quarry Bank Mill at Styal.
In recent weeks in their History lessons, the Year 6 pupils have been studying the Victorians and in particular the lives of children working in the cotton mills of Lancashire during the Industrial Revolution. The visit to Quarry Bank Mill gave them first-hand experience of life during this period of history.
Mrs Shan Morgan, Deputy Head of Lower School explained, To make the outing particularly meaningful, clothes from the Schools extensive range of theatrical costumes were borrowed to ensure all the children had the opportunity to dress in Victorian workers costumes. The visit included the mill and the Apprentice House which housed pauper children who worked in the mill. The children had the opportunity to participate in Victorian lessons and activities that replicated life for children from that era.
