Pupils Celebrating GCSE Success

Pupils celebrate an excellent set of GCSE results published today. Over a third of all grades are the top grades of A*/A. Results for IGCE were published earlier with over 56% awarded A*/A/B grades.

There were some particularly notable performances that are worthy of specific mention in their A star achievement and many more scooped up a cluster of top grades in the A*/A/B range.

Head of the Middle School Girls’ House, Emily Palmer from Baschurch achieved 10 A* grades and an A grade in the extra course, Free Standing Maths Qualification for gifted mathematicians. John Leadbeater from Ruyton XI Towns also achieved an impressive 5A*’s and 5A’s.

Other top performers include:

Jake Rogan, from Market Drayton 6A*’s and 2A’s and 1B.
Craig Tattersall, from Bangor on Dee, 5A*’s, 4A’s and 1B.
Hannah Swan from Shrewsbury, 4A*’s, 5A’s and 1B
Declan Roberts from Whitchurch, 3A*’s, 5A’s and 1B.
Peter Nelhans, Wrexham, 4A*’s, 3A’s and 1B
Josh Bendell, from Tarporley, 3A*’s 5A’s and 2B’s

Olivia Jones, who lives in Market Drayton, achieved 4A*’s, 4A’s and 1B. Olivia has managed this impressive set of results whilst maintaining a demanding Tennis regime as a player who has played at a National level.

Many pupils achieved a high number of top grades and the majority will be joining Ellesmere College Sixth Form to start either A levels or the International Baccalaureate in September.  Whilst congratulations go to them all, it should also be noted that pupils in Years 9 and 10 have also completed some early GCSE’s with pleasing results and they are included in our congratulations.

Mr Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, said ‘It is a testament to our pupils that they can combine achieving an excellent academic record along with maintaining their valued contribution to the musical, dramatic and sporting life of the College.  It is always a delight to receive such a well deserved, good set of results.  On completing their GCSE’s today it is clear that our pupils have set down an excellent foundation on which to build their Sixth Form career.  The results today are a credit to them, to their teachers and, of course, to their parents.’
