Pupils Celebrate Duke of Edinburgh Awards Success
A group of 21 pupils have been celebrating their Duke of Edinburgh Award success, when they received their prizes from The Mayor and Mayoress of Ellesmere at a special celebration event. Pupils were presented with their awards which included 17 Bronze, 2 Sliver and a Gold Award which was achieved by Mark McBrien.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is open to young people aged between 14 and 25 years and offers a wide range of activities and community participation, including volunteering, arts, crafts, personal and physical development, teamwork skills and leadership. Gold participants also have to complete a residential element to successfully complete their award.
Tom Gareh, Duke of Edinburgh co-ordinator at Ellesmere College, said "The young people honoured at this year's ceremony should all be very proud of their achievements. They have worked incredibly hard and have shown real determination. Not only that but they have learned a lot about themselves along the way. It takes a significant amount of effort and commitment to achieve an award, whether at Bronze, Silver or Gold level".
Sixth Form Pupil Mark McBrien, 17 Said "Achieving my Gold Award is just fantastic. I really enjoyed all the activities, although I found it challenging at times. The Duke of Edinburgh Awards has been a great opportunity for me and I would definitely recommend it to others."
