Ellesmere College has just completed its first year offering the Arts Council sponsored Arts Award programme to its pupils and over 50 pupils have been celebrating their achievements.
Under the auspices of the Ellesmere College Arena Arts Programme, Year 10 to 13 pupils have been working every week in dedicated Arts time, in a wide range of Arts areas including, Music, Scriptwriting, Painting, Sculpture, Costume and Make Up, Stage Lighting Design, Dance, Film-making, Radio Drama, Sound Recording and Musical Composition. In total 53 pupils have achieved their Bronze Arts Award with 3 pupils, Alexandra Sloan (lighting design), Aparajit Basu (scriptwriting) and Charlotte Shearer (stage management), having achieved the Silver Arts Award in their first year!
Richard Boswell, Coordinator of the Arena Arts Programme commented, As part of their Arts Award course they have also received stimulation from visiting workshops in areas from street dance to cartoon drawing. Pupils have been on an Arts Award expedition to London, taking in a workshop at the Globe Theatre, gallery visits and a chance to see the West End musical, Wicked. All this artistic input has been put to good use creating their own original and complex pieces.
