A 15 year old pupil who started shooting when he first joined the School four years ago has been selected by the British Schools Shooting Team to participate in an international shooting competition.
Richard Belcher, who lives in Newport, will be joining a group of 4 other pupils from other schools around the country to travel to Dortmund, Germany at the end of March to participate in the ISAS 2010 International, an event that attracts shooters from around the world, including the USA and Germany. The team will be focused on the indoor 50m match competition on electronic targets.
Shooting was the first extra-curricular activity Richard chose to participate in within weeks of joining the School. It was Jim Quinlan, who has been involved with the Shooting Club for the last five years who originally identified Richards shooting ability and he commented, Richards keen focus on shooting continues to reap reward for him and this latest opportunity will give him exposure to peer competition from around the world. Everyone in the Shooting Club wishes him well.
