'Potted Pirates' Show Huge Success at Ellesmere College

Following last year's success of Potted Potter, the creators, and delightful double act, Dan and Jeff returned to Ellesmere College's Art Centre last week to introduce a brand new compressed caper to pupils, staff and invited local primary school children.

In search of talking parrots and mysterious buried treasure, they told tall tales of the seven seas, encompassing, in an hour, all that needed to be known about pirates. They recounted piratical adventures on the high-seas from William Dampier and Blackbeard's biographies to swash-buckling fiction like Treasure Island.

Dan and Jeff delivered a full-scale re-enactment of the Spanish Armada, featuring thirty actors in full costume. The performance was a treat for the audience, irrespective of age. Potted Pirates included song, dance, lightning fast scene changes and colourful costumes, not to mention endless inventive props from peg-legs, patches and parrots to a bag of balls! Children from local schools, Bryn Offa, Packwood Haugh and Weston Lullingfields, as well as Longden Coleham School and St.Winefride's in Shrewsbury, attended the matinee performance.

Richard Boswell, Director of the College's Arena Arts Programme commented, 'We were delighted that children from so many local schools were able to accept our invitation for what turned out to be a fun-packed performance. The opportunity for the audience to join the actors in the exciting action around the auditorium and the stage was particularly enjoyed by all those who participated.'
