On Sunday record numbers of families visited the School for the annual summer Open Day, keeping staff and pupils busy escorting visitors around the School. Numerous parents also enjoyed the warm sun whilst watching the Schools Under 13 and Under 12 Cricket teams playing against Cheshire.
A considerable amount of academic work from pupils at different stages was on display including the International Baccalaureate Diploma offered in the Sixth Form. Visiting children had the opportunity to participate in a number of activities, including mathematics, games, music making and laser target shooting. There were also Science experiments, crafts and a quiz to occupy younger visitors as families progressed around the School.
This year, in advance of the launch of the Shooting Academy in September 2010, members of the Manchester Metropolitan University Sports Science Department were present explaining about developments in sports performance.
Mr. Richard Walsh, a parent and keen organist was to be found playing the Chapel organ whilst Music Scholars provided the background music during afternoon tea served in Big School to over 600 visitors.
Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, commented; I am always keen to ensure that the Schools summer Open Day is meaningful to all our visitors. It is traditionally supported well by our current parents, however, we are always delighted to meet families visiting us for the first time, as well as those enjoying a second visit. This year I was particularly delighted to welcome many local families with younger children who had the opportunity to learn about the considerable recent developments in Lower School.
