Nine members of Ellesmere College Titans were selected, along with their coach Steefi Bircher, to join Phase One of an England Talent Camp. They were identified as being amongst the very best of England's aspiring performance swimmers after their superb results at the National Age Group and Youth Championships.
Seven were on duty immediately at the West Midland's camp, which was hosted by Wrekin College, an ideal location with its superb pool and seminar facilities made available. Rosie Holland (12), Adam Metcalf (12), Jade Hamilton (12), Ellinor Southward (13), Shannon Dalligan (13), and Hector Pardoe (13) were the six selected from the College, along with fellow Titans' member, Joseph Small (14) from Whitchurch, who all took part on the day.
Coaches impressed with Titan's
The initial day was made up of two swim sessions and two lectures about lifestyle and efficiency, and the coaches were some of the country's best. It has been reported by some of the coaches that they were thoroughly impressed with the swimming talent, hard work, knowledge, and behaviour of the Titans' swimmers. This bodes well for some of the swimmers being invited on to the next stage, which - depending on their best strokes - will be at Millfield, Liverpool, or Coventry, or an educational day at Loughborough.
Two of Titans amongst the elite
Two more Ellesmere College members - Tazmin Pugh (14) and Olivia Gardner (15) -received selection letters to by-pass Phase One and were invited straight onto Phase Two at Loughborough's National Performance Centre. This will be followed by Phase Three, a three-day course in Coventry in the New Year.
