New Head Boy and Girl at Ellesmere College

Rebecca Britton and Freddie Herzog

With record numbers joining Ellesmere College this year the new Head Boy and Girl at a North Shropshire School will be busy supporting the Headmaster and staff in ensuring that every pupil feels welcome and settled in their new environment.

Rebecca Britton from Whitchurch and Freddie Herzog from Ruyton XI Towns, have taken the roles this year as Ellesmere Colleges Head Girl and Head Boy. These appointments are particularly challenging since there are over 600 pupils at the School, ranging from 7 to 18 years.

Rebecca joined the School in Year 7 and Freddie in Year 9. Both of them have experienced and enjoyed many of the opportunities which have been on offer during their time at Ellesmere College. Rebecca commented, I have loved all the choices which I have made over the years, like the Duke of Edinburgh Award activities and all the sports on offer. Besides being delighted to lead the School during a significant period of expansion in our pupil base, this summer Freddie and I both had the opportunity to complete our Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition in France.

Whilst studying for their A-levels and keeping focused on their goals to gain places at the University of their choice, along with their group of supporting prefects, Rebecca and Freddie will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and learn to conduct meetings with their peers as well as teachers. Freddie, who is taking A-levels in English, Geography and History, is planning to study History at University. He is also a keen member of the Chapel Choir.  Rebecca is studying for A-levels in English, Geography and History and is aiming to study English Literature at University.

One of Rebeccas and Freddies more significant tasks will be to develop a rapport with pupils of all ages to ensure they are approachable. With 50 Lower School pupils starting at the School this week as well as new international students into the Sixth Form, Rebecca and Freddie will be initially focused in supporting the staff to integrate all these pupils into the Schools community.

Freddie commented, Both Rebecca and I have been very happy at Ellesmere and over the coming year I feel it is an important part of my role to help ensure that others younger and new to the School feel the same.

At the forthcoming Open Day on Saturday 10th October, between 1pm and 4pm, Rebecca and Freddie will be leading the group of School prefects as they guide families around the School.
