With over 160 new pupils starting at the School this week, the newly appointed Captains of School and Prefect team have been busily supporting the academic and pastoral teams in welcoming new pupils and their families to the School.

The Head Girl, Ruslana Rashchupkina from the Ukraine and Head Boy, Christian Cieslik from Much Wenlock, will be working alongside a team of Prefects to support the staff and act as role models to pupils.

Ruslana started at Ellesmere in Year 10 and is now studying A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics with the aim to read Bio-Chemistry at Imperial College, London or Edinburgh University. Christian started at the School in Year 9 on a Sports Scholarship, after spending 2 years at the William Brookes School and whilst also studying science subjects at A Level, has his sights firmly on reading Medicine and being a Surgeon in the future.   

Whilst studying for their A levels and keeping focused on their goals to gain places at the University of their choice, along with their group of supporting prefects, Christian and Raslana will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and learn to conduct meetings with their peers as well as teachers.

Beyond their focus on their academic studies, Ruslana and Christian are both actively involved in other areas of the School. Christian is also this year�s Captain of Tennis. He was part of the Mixed Doubles Team earlier this year that played at the Bolton Arena in the National Schools Championships.  Ruslana is an enthusiastic member of the School Chapel Choir, enjoys being actively involved with House Plays and is a keen Squash player.  

Each year the Head Boy and Head Girl and Prefects undergo leadership training and this year�s newly formed team has recently agreed a mission statement for the year. Ruslana explained, �We agreed that our aim would be to keep a united community by setting an example, being respectful and supportive to others and to create a welcoming environment.�  As well as helping younger pupils to integrate smoothly into the School�s community, with a number of new local and international pupils into the Sixth Form studying the International Baccalaureate syllabus, one of Ruslana  and Christian�s more significant tasks will be to develop a rapport with pupils of all ages to ensure they are approachable. Christian added, �Over the years, I have been interested to see how Upper Sixth Formers have become role models and am now very aware that this now falls to Ruslana and myself. I am excited by the proposition and look forward to leading the Prefect group.�
