Musical to be performed by Ellesmere College Senior School

After a hugely successful Choral Society concert in the School's Chapel last weekend that included choral music through the ages, the sound of music will prevail again at Ellesmere College next week in the School's Arts Centre, as this year�s Senior School Play is performed each evening between Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th March.

Whilst Wind in the Willows was the play performed by Lower School Year 7 and 8 pupils earlier in the term, it is the musical, The Threepenny Opera by Bertolt Brecht, that has been chosen as this year's Senior School production and it is the first major performance at Ellesmere College to be directed by Mrs Pippa Bell, who took on the role of Director of Drama at the start of the current academic year. The Year 11 and the Sixth Form cast are now coming to the end of their rehearsing and Mrs Bell explained, "The Threepenny Opera is based on The Beggar's Opera by John Gay, and tells the tale of the gangster, Macheath, and his downfall at the hands of Mr. Peachum, the beggar king. The cast of 22 have been working hard to create the magical trick of seeming both a rollicking piece of noir-ish escapism and a cutting, class-based social satire."

This intricate piece of theatre, along with songs including classics such as Mack The Knife, is open to members of the public.
