Members of the Senior School Music Scholars Ensemble and Lower School Scholars were recently invited to perform at All Saints Church in Baschurch.
This year it was decided to hold the annual Peter Messenger Concert in the community. An invitation was received by Roger Paul, Director of Music, from Reverend Jules Wilson, Rector of the Baschurch, Weston Lullingfields and Hordley joint parishes and former Chaplain of fellow Woodard School, Denstone College, to perform at Baschurchs parish church.
Whilst the Senior School Music Scholars performed Pachabels Canon and The William Tell Overture, Lower School Scholars performed solos, on a variety of vocal, piano, string and percussion instruments.
Roger Paul, Director of Music explained, We were delighted to have been invited to perform in Baschurchs parish church and the pupils who performed are all talented musicians. Former pupil, Peter Messenger, who sadly died in his early twenties, was himself a Music Scholar at Ellesmere. His family set-up the Memorial Fund to financially assist Ellesmere College music scholars with their music studies at Summer Schools.
Reverend Jules Wilson added, "We love holding concerts at Baschurch as it gives the opportunity for the community to come together and appreciate the local gifts we have. Ellesmere College Scholars and Lower School Musicians were wonderful and we can't wait to have them back again. It is always so encouraging to see our young people using their time and energy to serve others in this way."
There was a retiring collection that raised 271 in aid of the Peter Messenger Memorial Fund and Baschurch All Saints Church Fund.
