Rugby Teams Off to a Flying Start

 

Ellesmere College has been celebrating the success of a large group of rugby playing pupils who have been selected for representative honours.

 

Ellesmere College's Rugby Academy is now in its fourth year and a record number of pupils have this season been selected to play for their county and at regional levels.

Last year's 1st XV's 2005 unbeaten run continues into this season and this year, the current 1st XV team reached half-term with this impressive playing record intact.

 

In the Senior Squad an incredible thirteen players were called up for regional representation. North Midlands is the combination of Worcester, Hereford, Greater Birmingham and Shropshire and Ellesmere provided eleven players three at U19 and eight at U18. Two other players represented North Wales.

 

Further individual success was achieved in the Junior teams at U16 we had four Shropshire players and one Cheshire player with one player going through to the North Midlands. Paul Goodwin, Director of Rugby at Ellesmere College, commented, 'At U14 an amazing eleven players were selected at the recent Shropshire trials, ensuring that the future looks very strong.'
