Two Lower School pupils have recently been recognised for their achievements in cricket and tennis.
Representing North Wales, Lottie Ainge participated in a regional tennis competition over half-term, whilst fellow Year 5 pupil, Ben Beaver, was recently named the U10 North Shropshire Cricketer of the Year following a County District event.
Lottie Ainge, from Wrexham, started playing tennis three years ago and has put much effort into developing her talent. She has regularly represented the School and recently was selected to play for North Wales. She is currently the No. 1 Under 10 player, after having won the North Wales Green Leader Board. Lottie also recently represented North Wales at Under 10 level in the National Counties Tournament in Wolverhampton. Nikki Hoy, Director of the Tennis Academy commented, Lotti works hard to improve her tennis and is so determined to achieve her goals.
Ben Beaver, a Year 5 cricketer, was named District Player of the Year for North Shropshire at the recent Under 10s Shropshire Cricket Festival. As a player for North Shropshire, Ben, along with fellow pupils, Luke Parker and Dominic Freer-Carmichael participated in the winter district programme hosted by Ellesmere College. The programme was delivered by ECB Level II coaches James Wojda and Chris Rogers and throughout the 12 weeks players took part in fielding drills, technical developments, nets and games.
As a member of the North Shropshire team that recently won all of their games against Bridgnorth, South Shropshire, Shrewsbury and Atcham, and Telford and Wrekin at the Under 10s Festival, Ben was awarded the District Player of the Year. Bens excellent performance at the Festival and his focused attitude throughout the winter programme to improve as a player ensured he was voted this years player of the year by the two coaches.
Chris Rogers, Shropshire Cricket Coach and Sports Centre Manager at the School commented, Ben has put a lot into his cricket this winter and has developed into an excellent player. He demonstrated potential when he arrived and over the winter months blossomed as a young player. Ben will now go on to join the Shropshire squad as they prepare for the summer fixtures. We wish Ben a very successful summer with the further development of his cricket.
