Soprano soloist Seren Devismes has been selected from a number of budding young singers to be the featured artist at Shropshire's very own 'Last Night of the Proms' concert on Saturday 14th October.
The 16 year old will draw the evening to a traditional close with a performance of 'Rule Britannia'. The Last Night of the Proms at St Mary's Church Ellesmere will be supported by the Shrewsbury Light Orchestra and the Ellesmere College Choral Society.
Seren has maintained a busy concert diary since joining Ellesmere College on a Walker Music Scholarship. This summer, she beat off stiff competition from 300 students to compete in the Woodard Musician of the Year, where she managed to capture second place in the senior class. The competition, which was held at the Elgar Concert Hall in Birmingham was adjudicated by Julian Lloyd-Webber, Principal of the Birmingham Conservatoire, who was full of praise for her performances.
Director of Music, Tony Coupe said "Seren is a natural soprano with a particular interest and ability in opera music. I am delighted by the scope of talent we have at the school and to see Seren perform the finale at this event and receive second place at the Young Musician of the Year competition is inspiring."
Shropshire's 'Last Night of the Proms' provides a similar concert experience to the famous prom series concert at the Royal Albert Hall. It is an evening where people can celebrate being British in the best sense. This is a charity concert raising funds for St Mary's Church Ellesmere and Age UK North Shropshire Supporters.
