Ellesmere College Ladies Lunch raises hundred's for charity

The Ellesmere College Parents Society Ladies Luncheon this year celebrated Women - past and present - and raised more than £750 for charity.

The event was held on the Terraces at the College in glorious sunshine to raise funds for The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust - the chosen charity of Diana Flint, the first female Ellesmerian at the College.

There were 13 stalls and 134 ladies in attendance on the day with £765 being raised for the charity.

Pauline Hale, Co Chair of the ECPS, said the day proved to be a great success. She said: "We had an excellent turnout and the weather really could not have been better. Everyone enjoyed the day and we were able to raise a substantial amount for Diana's charity. Diana was the first female student at the college and is immensely proud of being our first female Ellesmerian. She is also only the sixth woman to serve as High Sheriff of Shropshire - a post she held five years ago. We would like to thank all those ladies who turned out to support the event and to the stallholders who were excellently represented on the day.""

Money raised on the day will help conserve the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust's site at Coalbrookdale, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.

Following a warm welcome by Brendan Wignall, Headmaster of Ellesmere College, Diana gave an entertaining talk reflecting on her days at the College as the only female there in her first year in Sixth Form, and how it helped shape her for her future careers. She also paid tribute to strong women everywhere who have changed the course of history and become role models for generations of girls.

Entertainment at the event was provided by Mere Melodies - the Friends WW1 Concert Party, who performed in remembrance of 100 years of the First World War, singing a selection of songs from those war years and from the Suffragette Movement.

Stall holders included Little Gifts and Things, Kenyon Designs, Louise Tate, Lorna's House, Ollys Shop, Arbonne, Sophia, Filipski & Kirkus, Caroline's Pesto, Tipsy Tart, Classic Jewels, Thighs the Limit and Sue Dewhurst representing Cardiac Risk in the Young with Lyn Evans Designs.
