International Baccalaureate Diploma Results

Pupils were celebrating the first results of the summer with the publication of the International Baccalaureate Diploma results recently.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma was introduced in September 2006, as an alternative to operate alongside A Levels. Students who follow the International Baccalaureate course study six subjects, a course in The Theory of Knowledge, and produce a university standard Extended Essay as part of their assessment. While demanding, the course is highly rewarding and held in high esteem by universities � the top grade in the International Baccalaureate is formally equivalent to over 6 A grades at A Level.

24 Ellesmere students sat the International Baccalaureate Diploma this year a third of them gained the equivalent of 3 A* grades at A Level.  The average overall score for the International Baccalaureate candidates equated to two As and a B at A Level. Charlotte Shearer from Tarporley achieved an equivalent International Baccalaureate Diploma score of two A* and 2 A grades at A Level.  Charlotte will be reading History at Newcastle University.

The Headmaster, Mr Brendan Wignall, remarked that: �I am pleased for our pupils who have done well in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. They have certainly worked very hard, but they will be exceptionally well prepared for university following this course. We look forward now to the publication of the A Level and GCSE results in August.�
