Ellesmere College duo Sophie Miller and Mia Foster have been selected to attend the England Hockey Regional Performance Centre.
Sophie, 13 from Tarporley, Cheshire and Mia, 15 from Whitchurch, Shropshire, who both play for the College's First team and for their respective counties, have been nominated after a number of successful performances at England's Junior Academy, which aims to develop new young talent through a combination of training and competition. Mia said "I'm really pleased. I had always hoped that I'd get chosen but it was great when it was finally confirmed. To take part in this programme is a fantastic opportunity for both myself and Sophie and one that we are really looking forward to."
The pair will now join up with their respective national age group squads on route to the Under 18 Player Pathway, where they will receive high level coaching on the core skills of hockey with additional input from England Hockey's Centrally Contracted Coaches. Both players will be keen to impress and secure their place in England's High Performance Assessment Camp (HiPAC) for the Under 15 and Under 17 age groups or the England Hockey Futures Cup (EHFC) for the Under 16 and Under 18 age groups.
Helen Davenport, Head of PE at Ellesmere, said "This is a great opening for the girls who are playing in their National Age Group and receiving international standard coaching. They both have great potential and, with the support of England Hockey, will be able to develop all aspects of their game."
