The High Sheriff of Shropshire, Mr. Hugh Trevor-Jones, was at the School on Thursday afternoon to present Bronze and Silver awards to a group of pupils.

The visit by Mr. Trevor-Jones began with a tour of the School with Head Boy, Freddie Herzog and Chris Johnson, who earlier this year received the High Sheriff�s Young Citizen�s Award. The Headmaster, Brendan Wignall and his wife Anne, then accompanied the High Sheriff to Lower School Assembly Hall for the presentation event.    

The team of staff who support the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme at the School, as well as parents were present at this year�s ceremony. There were a total of 42 pupils from Years 12 and 13 who had gained their Silver and Bronze awards.

The 19 silver awardees who are now in the Lower Sixth studying for A levels or the International Baccalaureate are now working towards their Gold awards and will be travelling to Canada in July for a canoeing expedition in the Algonquin Park to complete the expedition element of the award.

Ros McCarthy, Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator at Ellesmere College commented, �The School has run the programme for 53 years. During this time over 1,000 young people have left school having achieved a Duke of Edinburgh award. We encourage all our Silver awardees to complete their Gold award, since, as the High Sheriff commented in his speech to the pupils, this makes them far more attractive to employers in the future.�
