The hard work of collating the first Cookbook, in aid of Help for Heroes, came to an end last night as recipes were demonstrated, tasted and copies of the cookbook were sold to those who attended the evening ensuring that the College is well on its way to reaching its �1,000 target for the charity.

The five Year 9 CCF cadets, Ellie Osborne, Hanna Swan, Molly Venner, Hayden Edge-Roberts and Declan Roberts were smartly dressed in uniform to receive guests and following an introduction by Ian Sawers, Help for Heroes� local coordinator, all participated on stage during the course of the evening.

Contributing personally much of the food tasted during the evening, the BBC Wales presenter and grandmother, Mrs Pat Venner, entertained everyone as she demonstrated how to put the finishing touches to a number of the recipes from the Cookbook.  All five cadets, demonstrated how to make some of the recipes in the cookbook with Declan, Hayden and Ellie showing how easy it is to impress guests with their Chocolate Digestive Surprise, while Molly and Hanna, performing an amusing double act, explained how to make Lemon Biscuits. They were followed by Lower School boarding pupils Eden Brenninkmeyer, Harriet Watson and Ben Swan who explained how they enjoyed making regular batches of Brownies with duty teacher Cathy Allen.    

Wine and tasty morsels were also donated and served by two Shropshire companies, both partners of Ellesmere College Enterprises Ltd, who organise third-party events at the School. Tipples, the external bar services� company served all the drinks during the evening and Roslin Catering staff walked around the groups of guests serving the food. Mrs. Davies, owner of Roslin Catering commented, �I was delighted to support this fundraising initiative for Help for Heroes. We served variations of some of the interesting recipes included in the book and on the night thought that pupils did a sterling job promoting their charity cookbook.�          

During the evening, Jaimie Wakefield, a Year 5 pupil at the School, and one of the youngest contributors to the cookbook, also sold bags of the dog biscuits made from his recipe, raising a further sum for the charity.

At the end of the launch, the five cadets marked their appreciation to Mrs Venner by presenting her with a gift and Rae Nicolson, the teacher who had helped the group to pull the whole event together, also was presented with a bouquet of flowers as a token of their appreciation for her support. She added, �The evening was a great success all round and the five cadets have done well supporting  Help for Heroes.�
