Head Groundsman Receives Award

The Head Groundsman at Ellesmere received the 2006 Bert Bond Award from the Institute of Groundsmanship, to recognise his Outstanding Services to this national body.

Last Friday, at the Midland Region of the Institute of Groundsmanship, the Head Groundsman at Ellesmere College, Ian Morris, was presented with the 2006 Bert Bon Award. Ian has been a past Chairman of the Institute of Groundsman Shropshire Branch and since 2000 has been the Secretary to the local group . In February 2006 he was appointed to be the Midland Region Vice Chairman for the next two years.

Ian Morris commented, I feel honoured to have received the award and enjoy the opportunity to assist in the development of the Institutes role both on a local and national level. The Institute of Groundmanship work closely with the governing bodies of Sport in the UK, ensuring the recognition of the profession and to give a voice on important issues related to groundsman. Currently we are preparing ourselves for the inevitable challenges associated with the 2012 London Olympics.
